Amman Antioxidants 2018: Concluding Remarks by Prof. Richard Maroun

The 3rd ISANH Middle East Antioxidants World Congress, Amman Antioxidants 2018, was held at the Royal Scientific Society, Amman, Jordan, on May 2 and 3, 2018, under the Patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, the President of the Royal Scientific Society. 

Prof. Richard Maroun, President of ISANH-ME, Prof. Jumana Saleh, Vice-President of ISANH-ME and Pofr. Hanan Malkawi, Master of opening ceremony and Vice-President of the Jordanian Royal Scientific Society welcomed more than 80 academics and industry representatives from 18 countries at the opening ceremony which took place at the Royal Scientific Society premises under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, the President of Royal Scientific Society who was represented by His Excellency the Jordanian Minister of Health, Prof. Mahmoud Al-Sheyyab.

At the end of the opening ceremony Prof. Kamel Ajlouni, Director of the National Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology & Genetics in Jordan gave a keynote speech on the Prevalence of diabetes and prediabetes in Jordan and Arab countries.

The aim of this international congress was to gather all stakeholders in antioxidants field and their impact on nutrition and health. Participants were majority from Middle East, North Africa, Europe & Asia.

All oral presentations as well as posters treated the following strategic axes and were distributed into 4 sessions:

  • Oxidative Stress & Antioxidants in Health & Medicine: Recent Advances and Perspectives
  • Antioxidants Extraction & Practical Applications of Antioxidants in Health
  • Diabetes & Redox Medicine
  • Oxidative Stress, Antioxidants & Innovations

At the end of the second day of the meeting, a concluding remark session was animated by Prof. Marvin Edeas, President of ISANH and Prof. Richard Maroun during which were highlighted the possibilities of collaboration between the researchers from the Middle Est region in order to initiate new kind of strategies by using local resources and ingredients and join efforts to prevent obesity, diabetes and cancer, knowing that these diseases are directly related to oxidative stress. The possibility of initiating collaborations with the industrial field was as well pointed out.

Finally, the scientific committee and the local organizers expressed their appreciation to all participants for their excellent contributions which made Amman Antioxidants 2018 a huge success and announced that the next ISANH-ME Antioxidants meeting will take place in Muscat, Oman at the Sultan Qaboos University on March 4-6, 2019.
